Agency Referral to Counselling Services at St Peters House

If you are a local agency or independent practitioner please feel free to use the form below to request counselling for your client. 

Before submitting a referral for your clients, please check they meet our criteria for counselling as below:

• Our counselling service is for short-medium term interventions, generally up to 10 sessions. Once sessions have been completed there is an 18 month stand-down before clients can reapply for more counselling. 
• ​Counselling is provided for Tauranga and Western Bay of Plenty residents only (Waihi Beach to Pukehina). 
• Sessions are 1 hour long and start between 9am and 3pm.  
• We have waiting lists for our counselling so there could be a wait of up to 6 weeks for an appointment.
• It is our practice to not have children in counselling sessions, exceptions can be made e.g. for breastfed babies.  Feel free to call us to discuss specific circumstances.  ​​

We do not provide counselling for:

• Individual children under the age of 12 
• Drugs and alcohol, gambling or other addictions
• Acute sexual abuse (i.e. a person who has been recently assaulted)
• Complex mental health issues – personality disorders, schizophrenia, bi-polar, psychosis, severe eating disorders or dementia
• Acute risk or safety issues
• Separated couples who need help with co-parenting or facilitating the separation. Our primary focus for couple counselling is to help the couple work through their issues to preserve the relationship. 
• Relationship counselling where there is domestic abuse or ongoing family violence
• Counselling students who are needing to come to counselling to fulfil their course requirements​​

Please check the client is able to attend sessions during our operating hours i.e will be able to leave work, arrange childcare etc.  Also, the more flexible they can be with availability the sooner we may be able to offer an appointment.

Telehealth (video or phone) counselling sessions are now available if that suits your client's circumstances better.

For individual counselling, the first 6 counselling sessions with us are fully subsidised, so are free of charge.  Fees, based on income, apply for any subsequent sessions your client has.  Refer the table below to determine the amount.​​

St Peters House is a charity, we have to raise considerable funds to be able to offer this service.  We encourage clients to consider making a financial contribution for all sessions if they are able

We do allow occasional missed appointments, but conditions apply.  
Appointment changes within 48 hours are considered a missed appointment.​

• Missed appointments within the first 6 sessions count one of the fully subsidised sessions.
• Missed appointments after 6 sessions will be charged at the full session rate up to a maximum of $40.
• Only 2 missed appointments will be accepted.  A 3rd missed appointment may end counselling with us.
