Aoake te Ra

Aoake te Ra - Bereaved by Suicide Service

Bereaved by Suicide Funded Service

Losing someone to suicide is a profoundly painful and often isolating experience. It can leave you holding a complex mix of grief, questions, shock, and emotions that don’t always make sense. However you are feeling right now is valid. There is no “right” way to grieve, and no set timeline for healing.

St Peters House, with the support of Aoake te Rā, is here to walk alongside you in this difficult time. We offer a safe, compassionate space where you can talk openly, be heard without judgment, and begin to make sense of what you’ve been through. Whether your loss is recent or many years ago, you are not alone, and support is here for you.

What is Aoake te Rā?

Aoake te Rā is a free service that provides therapeutic support to anyone impacted by suicide loss.
As part of this funded service we can offer a brief therapeutic response that supports individuals and whānau who have lost someone to suicide, helping them to honour their grief and letting it find a place in their adjusted future.

Aoake te Rā  means ‘a new sun rises' - the emerging light being a symbol of hope as whānau adapt to their loss. Their name was gifted by Hon. Peeni Henare, (prev Minister for Whānau Ora, Associate for Māori Health) and reflects the many voices of individuals, whānau and communities who have shared their knowledge and experience in creating a service that helps people navigate life after suicide loss.
