Boundaries

If you can answer “Yes” to one or more of these questions, Boundaries may be helpful for you.

  • Are you saying “Yes, that’s ok” when you really mean “Absolutely Not”

  • Do you feel guilty when you say no?

  • Do you want to have a better understanding of the internal and external factors that may be preventing you from being lovingly assertive?

  • Do you feel rejected or angry when other people say “no” to you?

Boundaries is made up of 8 consecutive weekly sessions, each session runs for 2.5 hours. The material is based on, but not limited to, the teachings of psychologists, Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend http://www.cloudtownsend.com.

While some time is set aside for participants to share individual boundary issues, this course is not designed to operate as a therapy group.

The aims of the course are to provide participants with:
  • A greater understanding of how to build or rebuild relationships based on healthy boundaries.

  • A safe group setting which encourages honest sharing

  • An understanding of the importance forgiveness plays in emotional well-being and knowing the difference between being a forgiving person and one that gives a person license to continue hurting you.

  • The opportunity to recognise tendencies they may have to also reject the clear boundaries others may be trying to set with them.

  • An appreciation of some of the motives that cause people to become “people-pleasers” and how to address the internal and external resistances that sabotage efforts to set healthy boundaries.

  • Skills to become “lovingly direct” in their relationships.

Each session includes;
  • View a teaching DVD

  • Ask questions

  • Teaching on how the boundary principles presented can be applied in everyday life.

  • Share the struggles and issues that participants are having setting and receiving boundaries.

  • An opportunity to get to know each other over a complimentary morning tea.

Childcare for pre-schoolers may be available, subject to space, at St Peters Childcare.

Morning tea provided each week.
